Three of four Shankaracharyas should be from SC, ST, OBC category: Lalu

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad on Thursday demanded that three of the four Shankaracharyas should be from Dalit, Scheduled Tribes or  OBC categorycastes. He also announced a rally to be held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on August 27. The slogan of the rally would be “BJP Hatao Desh Bachao” (Evict the BJP, Save the country).

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the concluding day of the RJD national executive meet in Rajgir, Lalu said Brahmins alone should not become Shankaracharyas. There should be reservation in “mutts” (monasteries) of the Shankaracharyas. Urging his party workers to gear up for the 2019 Lok Sabha election Lalu said the BJP is trying to divide the country in the name of religion and nationalism. It is the need of the hour for the secular forces to unite against the saffron party and save the country.

Lalu also urged the RJD functionaries and workers not to make utterances which could lead to friction in the ruling Grand Alliance. The meet was preceded by a two-day training camp for young party workers of the RJD on Tuesday and Wednesday.

RJD sources said many leaders from anti-BJP parties, including Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee,  Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala and former PM H D Deve Gowda, among others, would be invited to address the rally.

Lalu also released a magazine titled ‘Dharm Nirpeksh Bharat’. It has been published by the Dharmnirpeksh Sevak Sangh, an organisation floated by his elder son and state health minister Tej Pratap Yadav. RJD's state unit heads from UP, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka also addressed the national executive meet, which adopted resolutions on seven agendas, including finance, politics, agriculture, foreign affairs, minorities, EBCs and SC/STs.
