Now a drunk SHO caught in Muzaffarpur

Patna,(BiharTimes): More than 24 hours after the arrest of two office-bearers of the Bihar Police Men’s Association from New Police Lines in Patna, a sub-inspector was caught after high drama  in Muzaffarpur in the wee hours of Friday on the charge of drinking and creating scene.

At the time of arrest Rameshwar Singh, posted as Station House Officer (SHO) at Kazi Mohammadpur police station in Muzaffarpur district, was so drunk that he could barely walk. He even whipped out his service revolver and threatened to shoot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Kumar, who was leading a police team.

The arrest came after a local resident complained to Tirhut Zone Inspector-General (IG) Sunil Kumar that the SHO was drunk while on duty. The IG asked Muzaffarpur SSP to confirm the allegaion. The latter was shocked to find Rameshwar in inebriated condition.

According to the SSP he was drunk when the police team reached Kazi Mohammadpur police station. An empty 375ml bottle was found, suggesting he had consumed liquor only a few minutes ago. Rameshwar reportedly took out a bottle from a carton of alcohol seized from a youth arrested by Kazi Mohammadpur police near Muktinath temple in Muzaffarpur on Thursday evening. A relative of the youth, who was detained for interrogation, informed senior police officials about the conduct of the SHO.
Reports said the SHO of University police station Ram Kumar was assigned to take Rameshwar in custody and conduct a breath-alyser test on him. On seeing the police, Rameshwar fled and hid behind a tree and threatened to shoot. The policemen somehow overpowered him.

The drama lasted around three hours–– between 10 PM and 1 AM. Though it was quite late a big crowd of onlookers had gathered to witness the ‘show’.

Later tests were conducted which confirmed Rameshwar had consumed alcohol. Rameshwar has been suspended. City SP Kumar Ashish has been instructed to submit a proposal recommending SI’s dismissal from service for violating the prohibition law. An FIR has also been lodged against him under Sections of Excise and Prohibition Act 2016.

Later in the day a large number of lawyers, litigants and other people had assembled outside the court in Muzaffarpur to see the sub inspector being produced. He was later remanded to 14-day judicial custody in the Shaheed Khudiram Bose Memorial Central Jail.

The incident followed the arrest of the president of the Bihar Police Men’s Association, Nirmal Kumar Singh, and its secretary, Shamsher Khan, late on Wednesday night from New Police Line in Patna on the charge of drinking and creating scene.
