Ministers’ bungalows doubling as marriage halls in Bihar, claims a TV channel

Patna,(BiharTimes): Two Bihar ministers, incidentally both belonging to the Rashtriya Janata Dal, are reportedly renting out their official bungalows for marriages––or some other functions––for something between Rs 2.50 lakh and Rs 3 lakh per day.

According to a story done by ‘India Today’ channel Abdul Ghafoor and Shiv Chandra Ram have rented their official bungalows for private weddings and parties. The daily earnings of these two ministers from the business remain unaccounted.

Abdul Ghafoor, minister for minorities’ affairs, has been allotted a bungalow at 3, Taylor Road. The spacious open land inside the bungalow is often decked up round with pandals and lighting, especially during wedding season. At this time, almost every day there is a wedding function.

Similarly, 12 Strand Road, the official bungalow of ninister for culture and youth affairs Shiv Chander Ram is decorated throughout the year for wedding and private parties.

Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi has asked chief minister Nitish Kumar to take action against the two ministers for misusing official bungalows for commercial reasons. He said an FIR should be registered against them.

According to the BJP leader Nitish has also attended marriages in these bungalows. No way can the ministers make commercial use of the official bungalows.

Private marriages taking place in the posh bungalows of ministers are not a new phenomenon. In fact they have been taking place for the last several decades. What is different––if the news channel is to be believed––is that they are now being used for commercial purpose and not given free of cost.
