Sharad, not Nitish to attend Sonia meet

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former president of Janata Dal (United) and not the incumbent chief Nitish Kumar will be attending the May 26 meet called by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The latter had called all the leaders of anti-NDA parties to discuss the Presidential candidate.

According to the JD(U) spokesman K C Tyagi the Bihar CM had already met Sonia Gandhi a few days back and had already communicated her view on the issue to her. He said Ahmed Patel, the political secretary of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, called up Nitish on Tuesday to invite him to the Opposition meeting. However, Nitish declined the invitation and said he would send a representative.

As reported Nitish had already called for a second term to President Pranab Mukherjee. But several other leaders, including Lalu Prasad, is not inclined to this idea.

Among others who would be attending the meeting at Sonia’s place––which incidentally coincides with the third anniversary of Narendra Modi becoming the prime minister––are RJD chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

The name of former Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar are under consideration for Presidential election.

The BJP is yet to name its candidate.
