Dozen die after PMCH junior doctors strike enters second day

Patna,(BiharTimes): Twelve patients have so far lost their lives as the strike by junior doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital entered second day on Friday.

Doctors went on strike after some attendants of a suspected dengue patient who died, assaulted them on Thursday.

Incidentally, health minister Mangal Pandey on Thursday threw his lot behind the doctors stating that at least in this case they are not at fault as the patient had died before he was brought to the PMCH.

The minister along with the health secretary R K Mahajan held meeting with the doctor on Friday. A final decision in this regard would be taken late on Friday evening.

Doctors are demanding proper protection as attacks on them are  a regular phenomenon.

They accused the government of not providing proper security as well as enough medicine and equipment. They said that they are forced to work under very difficult situation.

The stike has paralysed the functioning in the hospital, including its Emergency Ward.

The trouble started after a 20-year-old patient was declared brought dead at the hospital around 8 in the morning..

Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) gave 48-hour ultimatum to the government as well as PMCH administration to improve security. The junior doctors have threatened to go on an indefinite strike if their demand was not met.

JDA president Dr Vinay Kumar said that at least 55 medicine are needed for operation, but the government provides only three medicine. He blamed the state government for the present crisis.
