Prohibition only for poor, not for Nitish’s bureaucrats

Patna,(BiharTimes): Stating that the prohibition in Bihar is being strictly implemented only on poor people former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Thursday asked chief minister Nitish Kumar to carry out breath analyser test among his bureaucrats to find out the real situation.

Asserting that he is in favour of prohibition the leader of Hindustani Awam Morcha said he has differences over the mechanism of prohibition. In Bihar.

Talking to the media in Ranchi he reiterated that only the poor are being caught and stuffed into jails while the liquor mafia are still flourishing.

He, however, accepted that in the last one week the Bihar government has turned the heat on the organised liquor mafia.

Manjhi, who had come to Jamshedpur to attend a private function, came to Ranchi, where he met Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das. The meeting lasted for half an hour.

Appreciating the Das government’s move to impose phase-wise prohibition Manjhi said the Jharkhand government has taken over the liquor business and the number of shops has come down. Thus in the coming years it will be easy to completely ban alcohol.

Replying to a question on the manner in which he was removed as the CM he said he had forgotten the past. Nitish made him the chief minister and he could have stepped down any time had the former asked him.

However, Manjhi said he felt humiliated when Nitish said that his decision to appoint him CM was a blunder.

“Then, Janata Dal (United) leaders started calling me mad,”  Manjhi said.

Calling Nitish as a visionary leader Manjhi hastened to add that the former got into bad company with Lalu Prasad.
