Traders down shutters in protest against rise in crime

Patna,(BiharTimes): Shopkeepers in downtown Patna downed their shutters in protest against the killing of shoe trader Jitendra Kumar Gandhi late on Tuesday night.

Gandhi, who owned a Khadim’s showroom on Bailey Road, was shot dead by unidentified criminals while he was returning home from his store to his home situated under Phulwarisharif police station of Patna.

Traders attribute the sudden rise in crime to shift in focus of the police from law and order to imposition of prohibition.

Meanwhile, the president of the Bihar Chamber of Commerce & Industries, P K Agarwal, said such incidents badly affect the confidence of traders’ bodies, industrialists and businessmen. The government should take strict action as it is bringing bad name to the state.

The chairman of Bihar committee of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Satyajit Singh, said incidents of loot and murder of traders have become a routine affair in Bihar now. The government should take immediate step to create confidence among traders.
