Toilet Scam kingpin owns property worth Rs 100 crore





Patna,(BiharTimes): The main accused in Toilet Scam, Vinay Kumar Sinha, the public health and engineering department (PHED) executive engineer, has illegally amassed property worth Rs 100 crore, most of them during the last 12 years of the Niitish Kumar government, which enacted law to confiscate ill-gotten wealth.

Arrested from Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday night, he confessed before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that he owns over 40 flats in Patna and other cities.

According to Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj the executive engineer has confessed to owning property of over Rs 100 crore and has invested the money in real estate.

The police suspect Sinha is involved in several other scams while working at the PHED.

Incidentally, he comes for a well off family of Nalanda, the home district of chief minister Nitish Kumar.

Besides, he has ancestral property at Kankarbagh in Patna. He also owns a large plot worth over Rs 15 crore behind P&M Mall.

Reports said that in 2008, Sinha came in contact with arrested PHED accountant Biteshwar Prasad and since then the two have worked in connivance, siphoning off PHED funds meant for various schemes.

Sinha was transferred to Muzaffarpur but because of his influence in the higher echelons, he returned to the headquarters in Patna.

His elder brother Vijay Kumar Sinha is a neuro-surgeon in the United States. His daughter and son-in-law live in Gurgaon while his son is a final-year MBBS student of Manipal University.
