Police officer killed in encounter with liquor mafia
Patna,(BiharTimes): A police havildar, Anil Kumar Singh, was killed and station house officer (SHO) of Sarairanjan police station Manoj Kumar Singh was injured in an encounter with liquor smugglers at Sarairanjan under Samastipur district on Monday night.
The shoot out took place when a police team was carrying out a drive against liquor smugglers at Indrawara Kewalsthan.
The incident occurred when the police team intercepted a car. Liquor smugglers who were inside fired indiscriminately killing BMP havildar Anil Kumar Singh and causing injuries to the SHO.
The havildar died while on way to hospital.
The SHO received injuries in his hand and is being treated at a private hospital in Samastipur.
The smugglers fled on foot.
According to Samastipur sub-divisional police officer Mohammed Tanveer the police are conducting raids to nab the criminals.
Reports quoting police sources said that over 50 rounds were fired from both sides.
The police recovered a large quantity of liquor, four cartridges and a pair of slippers from the car.
Samastipur SP Dipak Ranjan has constituted a special team to arrest the bootleggers.
