Former AITUC president Gaya Singh passes away





Patna,(BiharTimes): Two-term Rajya Sabha member and former national president of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Gaya Singh passed away at a private hospital in Patna on Saturday. He was 76.

He was bed-ridden for long due to prolonged illness. He was admitted to the hospital after his condition deteriorated on Friday.

Condoling his death chief minister Nitish Kumar said the country has lost a prominent trade union leader.

Gaya Singh was born at Alama village in Nalanda district. He did postgraduation from Patna University, where he was actively involved in the 1965-66 students' movement under the AISF, students’ wing of CPI.

After joining CPI he shifted to Bokaro.

He rose to become the AITUC national president and was also associated with international trade union bodies.
