Nitish seeks central university status for Patna University

Patna,(BiharTimes): Seeking central university status for Patna University chief minister Nitish Kumar started his speech with showering praise on PM Narendra Modi and his alma mater.

He said he came at Patna Science College here in 1966 after passing matriculation. “I was extremely happy to get admitted to Pre-Science…later I got admitted to Bihar College of Engineering,” he said.

Nitish said that he did not want to study engineering and for seven days he skipped the class there.

According to him PU was the outcome of the bifurcation of Bengal. “We arefeeling elated. Once Nehru was to come here, but could not come. He once came to Darbhanga House, but that was not the programme of Patna University,” he said.

JP came from here, Dinkar was its student. Two of the ex-students became Chief Justice of India, Attorney General of India etc.

“When we used to be here 22-23 students of PU used to crack UPSC every year…We now look with hope,” adding that “we have demanded several times that patna University be made a central university.

PU came into existence on the centenary year of Bapu’s visit he said and than with folded hands requested PM to make it a cemtral university on this historic occasion.

He expressed thanks to PM for his eagerness to see the newly built Bihar Museum.

He tried to politicise the event by naming former education minister Ashok Chaudhary stating that he is here though he thought “aap ko nikaal na diya jaye” (I fear you have been thrown out––obviously from Congress).
