Varied opinion on central university demand for Patna University

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though some political pundits are interpreting the non-acceptance of the demand of central university status for Patna University as a defeat of chief minister Nitish Kumar yet there is no dearth of people who dub it as outdated and superfluous.

A former research fellow of Patna University told BiharTimes that the demand of central university does not carry much weight. After all Nitish Kumar has already used his political position to get two Central Universities in Motihari and Bodh Gaya when all the other states got one. Besides, thanks to former President A P J Abdul Kalam and UPA government Bihar also got Nalanda University. In future the state may get Vikramshila too. What will it do with so many central universities.

However, in political circle and social media a campaign has started showing it as a rejection of Nitish’s demand by Narendra Modi.

“What Nitish needs to do is to improve the standard of education in the state which has deteriorated further during his rule. We should not link all the demands to politics,” an observer said.

But teachers and students of PU were somewhat dismayed as they were expecting some big announcement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“How can one expect PU to figure in top 10 in the country for special attention when it is not in the top 100,”  a student asked.

There is yet another opinion. “What will central university do. Even the salaries of teachers of state and central universities are almost same. Instead one should improve the standard of education,” said a Bihar watcher.
