Sand mining industry employees stage road blockade

Patna,(BiharTimes): Normal traffic was  disrupted for one and a half hour after employees of sand mining industry staged road blockades at Mahatma Gandhi Setu and the newly constructed JP Setu at Sonepur on Tuesday morning.

They protested against the new law banning sand mining during the monsoon months.

According to them the new law has rendered thousands of workers jobless for months.

Reports said that more than 500 sand workers staged a blockade at Govindchak area of Sonepur on NH-19 connecting Chhapra with Hajipur from 10:30 AM to 12 PM.

It was lifted after police reached the spot.

Sand workers also blocked the road at Chailachowk in Hajipur disrupting traffic on Mahatma Gandhi Setu.

The new sand mining law framed as per the directions of the Supreme Court bans mining from July to September.
