Former MP Shyama Sinha passes away





Patna,(BiharTimes): Former member of parliament (MP) of Congress party Shyama Sinha, wife of former governor of Nagaland and Kerala, Nikhil Kumar, died after prolonged illness in Escorts Fortis Hospital, New Delhi, in the wee hours of Monday.

She was about 75.

Daughter-in-law of former Bihar chief minister Satyendra Narayan Sinha, she represented Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat as Congress MP between 1999 and 2004.

Shyama, who was born on November 26, 1942, played a key role as an MP in reviving the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project, which her father in-law had conceived during his stint as the chief minister in 1989.

Her busband Nikhil Kumar, a former IPS officer, will arrive in Patna with her body on Tuesday morning. She would be cremated in Patna on Wednesday.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar said Shyama Sinha was not only a popular political leader, but also an outstanding social worker.

Ashok Choudhary termed her death as his personal loss, and said the void left by her death would not be easy to fill.

Former Union minister Akhilesh Prasad Singh, AICC media panellist Prem Chandra Mishra, former minister Kripanath Pathak and BPCC spokesman Harkhu Jha condoled the death.
