SuMo sees hope in Information Technology to prevent floods

Patna,(BiharTimes): Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday urged experts to use IT to find solution to problems of flood, enhance farm production and improve delivery system in different sectors in the state.

Inaugurating the two-day “Hackathon'”, an app-development competition for engineering students that the information technology department has organized, at BIT Mesra campus in the state capital he said through use of IT, youths should come out with solution to recurring floods in Bihar.

Besides, IT help should be taken to enhance farm production and improve delivery system in different sectors.

SuMo, who also holds charge of IT department in the Nitish Kumar cabinet said that the state government would make available Rs two lakh capital to youths coming up with a start up.

He said Bihar would not lag behind any other state in the field of IT. The industry would be developed in such a way that the youths need not go out of Bihar.

He asked youths to innovate and become job providers.

Secretary, IT department, Rahul Singh and Director of BIT Mesra V K Singh also addressed the meet.

However, a Bihar watcher commented on the sidelight of the function that Sushil Modi should be reminded of Justice Walia Commission report on 2008 flood which ravaged the Kosi region.

The breach in Kusaha embankment took place because, according to the Justice Walia Commission, the Bihar government engineers undertook the anti-erosion and flood protection work in a shoddy manner and wireless messages were ignored by the government machinery.

“What will IT do when wireless message warning of such a devastation was ignored. One of our ministers is blaming rats for flood this year,” said Mahindra Yadav of National Alliance of Peoples Movement, who have worked for the relief and rehabilitation of Kosi floods.
