Patna admn goes Bengal way, directs immersion to be done on Sep 30

Patna,(BiharTimes): Notwithstanding the Kolkata High Court ruling the district administration of Bihar’s capital, Patna, has directed puja committees to immerse idols a day before Muharram (October 1). They would now be immersed on  Vijaya Dashami day (September 30).

“We have directed Puja Committees to carry out immersion on September 30,” Patna district magistrate (DM) Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said after the meeting with the Puna Committees.

“As October 1 is Muharram, when Muslims take out processions, we don’t want to create a situation where Puja and Muharram processions clash,” he added.

It needs to be recalled that last year too, Puja Committees were asked to immerse idols on Vijaya Dashami with the consent of different Puja Committees.

But last year Nitish Kumar was leading a Grand Alliance government, but this year he is the chief minister of NDA.

This decision of Patna administration is not likely to go down well in the BJP circle as they can no more criticize Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

The Patna district administration’s directive says Puja Committees can carry out immersions on October 2 in less sensitive areas after submitting an application at the local police station.

Though they followed the administrative diktat last year yet many Puja Committees are of the view that it would be very difficult for them to immerse all the idols on September 30.
