Bihar rape: Government to urge HC to monitor CBI probe





Kolkata, Aug 2 (IANS) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi on Thursday said the state government will urge the Patna High Court to monitor the CBI investigation in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case.

As many as 34 minor girls were sexually assaulted in Balika Grih, a short-stay girls' shelter home run by an NGO of Thakur in Bihar's Muzaffarpur.

"The Bihar government appointed Tata Institute of Social Sciences to audit shelter homes of the girls. The institute audited and the girls complained that they were sexually assaulted. After that the state government lodged an FIR," Modi said here.

Out of the 11 accused persons, 10 have been arrested, he said.

"The matter has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and charge sheet has also been filed. In the next date, we will urge the Patna High Court to monitor the entire investigation of CBI," he said.

"This was a shameful incident. We have ordered a thorough probe and have taken actions against culprits... We have not protected anyone," Modi said.
