Elephants trample man, daughter to death in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Feb 19 (IANS) A herd of wild elephants on Monday trampled a man and his daughter to death in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, forest officials said.

Forest Department officials said the herd entered their house at Manoharpur while both were having a meal and trampled them. A woman was also injured.

The identity of the victims could not be known immediately.

The elephants foraged for foodgrains kept in the house and later left the village, but not before damaging a few houses.

The villagers accused forest officials of arriving late in the village.

In Jharkhand, more than 1,000 people have been killed since 2000 by rampaging wild elephants.
