CPI-ML for opposition unity to defeat BJP in 2019

Patna, May 1: The Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (CPI-ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Tuesday stressed the need for opposition unity to ensure the defeat of the BJP and its allies in the 2019 general elections.

"All opposition parties have to come together to defeat the BJP," Bhattacharya said while addressing a Jan Adhikar conference attended by hundreds of party workers and supporters, including farmers.

He expressed the hope that opposition unity is very much possible as most non-BJP parties were keen and ready to join hands.

Bhattacharya also claimed that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance will not return to power at the Centre.

"People across the country are angry with this government. The anger is growing as farmers, workers, students, jobless youths and women take to the streets to protest and express their unhappiness," the Left leader said.

He also warned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Janata Dal-United President and an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party, against what he called increasing crime against women and atrocities on Dalits.

The country is facing a danger from the BJP due to its RSS agenda. "Democracy is in danger and there is a conspiracy to finish the Constitution," Bhattacharya claimed.

The CPI-ML has three legislators in the Bihar Assembly and enjoys support in certain rural pockets in the state.
