Tweedle-dum, -dee, -daa: The political slugfest

Dr. Sudhir Ranjan, Boston, USA

“Sampark Yatra” can best be understood as a journey for energized communication, and also for togetherness. Many still unable to unfold the mystery - what has gone wrong with the land of 100 million people - Bihar. Are the sufferings of this land the loose inter-personal skills, and the incoherent communication channels???

Lets’ go back to era – what is the quintessence of Epics “Mahabharata” and “Ramayana”? We can churn much more off including multiple verbatim, more pros than cons and vice versa. Howsoever, it is also a reflection of the state of mind undergoing through stages of neglect, ego, suspicion and treachery as well. It directs humanity an ultimate victory of truth over evil at the end after undergoing the series of pains. Will present Bihar ever rise above the agony of self-desecration?

Many great warriors and philosophers including Chandragupta Maurya, Chanakya and the most powerful king of all time “Asoka the Great” from the land of Magadh (present Bihar) rose from the ruins  of Mahabharata and Ramayana, gave this land a glorious past to groom new order of philosophical and religious thoughts – Buddhism and Jainism. It was until 1193 AD, when this society struggled lastly for peace through new religious provocation and thereby led to decline of Budhhism and Jainism. The run for resources brought the law of social classes in their new forms, and the excerpts were derived from Manusmriti. It was 1793, when the most powerful of his time, Lord Cornwallis of East India Company empowered a few select individuals in the form of “upward mobile class”. Though up in the hierarchy, many amongst them were not givers. Struggle - muscle flexing and money power continued for resources.

It was all about British India. And, when it became India – the rhetoric should have been watered under the bridge.

In 1912, people from the land of Magagha/Vaishali/Angika/Mithila/chotanagpur/Santhal Pargana were given a new name “Bihar". Opportunities were abundant for the people of Bihar to live with their past glory. For the last sixty years, Bihar as a state of Independent India has seen several antics of their political masters including their empathizers and supporters.  Today, her social, cultural and geopolitical heritages remained spell bound in the textbook of Ancient History.  A fierce struggle for resources only through political means never gave Bihar an opportunity to resuscitate. Nine years ago, bright light was seen into the dark tunnel; no more pumping of bullets of shame on her body with the help of their own children.

People need to learn that their actions do affect other people whether they are common men and women or political and social activists or even chief ministers. One can’t keep hurting the interest of the state. An utmost care must be taken – what we say and do, it is not always about us….!! In present time, whenever I read about two former chief ministers Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav and Mr. Nitish Kumar, they are always nitpicking about Mr. Narendra Modi, and his social and economic policies together as if they are glued at the hip.  That made me to think about the “Tweedledum” and “Tweedledee” characters despite their rise from the garb of Jai Prakash Narayan movement. No one would never have checked out their precise explanation to know whether the metaphor is reasonably fitting.

As described in the dictionary, Tweedle means to Chirp, and dum and dee represent low and high musical notes, and were used first time in any forms in 1725. Within the context or without any means they continue to appear as fictional to real characters, from nursery rhymes to political satires across the globe.

What should one call a super high musical note – lets’ name it “daa”, and hence we have one more comical character – Tweedledaa, which people are listening to so very patiently delivered from London to Bettiah, shockingly. When there is social disarray, there is supplemental need. A fulfillment of aspiration is good, but stepping into new definition of social justice is too life-size for Mr. Manjhi. The political parroting of social justice is no longer a gimmick. Then, why this slug-fest; whose betterment would be?

What will happen when “too many cooks in the kitchen of social justice” – each cook will think that they are responsible and accountable thereby resulting in duplication of effort and in-fighting. What a Shame!  Tweedle-dum, -dee, and -daa. Social justice is now completely bewildered, whimpering acrimoniously in the corner. It would be ill-fated to see the word “social justice” meeting the fate of the word “secular”.

Dalai Lama has rightly said – “All agony is caused by lack of knowledge, people inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their own happiness or satisfaction.” Knowledge is power, it condones anger, it makes people to become free from low self-esteem. Lets’ earn knowledge! Who doesn’t understand that caste is like a cobra, and has surreptitious relationship with Bihar. These three musical notes, and their orchestra groups aren’t taking the venom away. I am quite puzzled to see Mr. Nitish Kumar’s silence as if on-going tirades are pleasing to his ears. So unfortunate to see a man who loved Bihar and Bihar loves him becoming “persona non-grata”. Where is he heading for after losing the election? I am not doing anything – still maintaining a low volume as if all scenes are scripted on his behalf. Friends became enemies; enemies became friends – and situation compelled Bihar to be ruled by more “complexed” voracious predator.  Neither Nalanda International University nor the largest Angkor Wat type Hindu temple will bring the glory of the past, until the dum…, dee… and daa… especially daa… of 2014 comprehend that they are the sound what they play may be good for their political milestones, but geographically they are quite unhealthy. They hurt the pride of Bihar, and 100 million Biharis.

There is a need to stop reminiscing the past and not instigating the present in order to undermine the might of the “castes”. It is also inaccurate to state that every single person is driving under influence. Casteism, and corruption are not the trademark of Bihar, it is omnipresent. However, there is no denying fact that Bihar got painted recently with the same “used” brush during cabinet expansion of central government. Is there a difference between getting something wrong and committing something wrong? The big difference is who acts intentionally deceitful. Beyond these dum, dee and daa of so-called social justice colleges, Bihar has to act on their redundancies including to those, who started to write their own lyrics. Is enough not enough for Bihar relating to those politically weak and narcissistic quitter, who are desperate to try to stay relevant? Demanding for special status is like carving Mahadalit out of Dalit…. I beg your pardon, sir….. Does it make any sense today of calling a section of “powerful Bhumihar”…. the Mahabhumihar, because a national party was compelled to bow down to a foolhardy demand, Imagine! All dots are inter-connected…they finally lead to greed! Are we? No one ever protested or sat on fast in the name of Mahatma Gandhi – “Banega Swachh, Sundar aur Tikaau Setu” by 2019….

People of Bihar are resilient, and have endured lots of hardship riding “Jan Sadharan Express” with the hope of having “Bullet Train” one day…... Will Bihar ever rise above the pathetic musical notes of these comical characters irrespective of their political affiliations!!!!!
