New Delhi, April 10 (BiharTimes): In a landmark political development, Nitish Kumar on Friday took oath as a Member of the Rajya Sabha, formally marking the end of his nearly two-decade-long tenure at the helm of Bihar and setting the stage for a new leadership chapter in the state.
The oath was administered by C. P. Radhakrishnan during a brief ceremony held in his chamber in New Delhi. Welcoming Kumar to the Upper House, the Chairman also noted his return to Parliament, underlining his long-standing role in national politics.
Kumar, who took the oath in Hindi, was joined by several senior leaders and Union ministers, including J. P. Nadda, Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for Agriculture Ram Nath Thakur, and Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal.
The move is widely seen as a significant transition in Bihar’s political landscape. Having served multiple terms as Chief Minister since 2005—with a brief interruption—Nitish Kumar has been one of the state’s most enduring and influential leaders. His shift to the Rajya Sabha is expected to trigger a leadership change in the state, with intense speculation already underway regarding his successor.
Political observers believe Kumar’s entry into Parliament could signal a more active role at the national level, particularly within the evolving dynamics of coalition politics. At the same time, the development opens up a new phase in Bihar politics, as the ruling alliance prepares for a generational and strategic transition.
As Bihar stands on the cusp of change, all eyes are now on the next Chief Minister and the direction the state’s governance and development agenda will take in the coming years.
