|           | Patna, (Bihar Times): The Bihar government has decided
to rotate periodically hardcore Naxal inmates from one
central jail to another. This decision follows the
repeated case of trouble in the prisons all over the
state, including the recent revolt in the Beur Model
    Jail in Patna.
This move is aimed at preventing the prisoners from
    developing proximity and organizing themselves.
According to an official estimate there are around 700
hardcore Naxalites in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya,
Bhagalpur and Buxar central jails of Bihar. One
hundred and fifty such hard-core Maoists are lodged in
    the Beur jail alone.

After the infamous Jehanabad jail-break of November
13, 2005 the number of ultra-Left lodged in district
    jails have reduced considerably.

Jails in Bihar are plagued with problems such as
    under-staffing, over-crowding and meagre resources.
They are working with just 50 per cent of the
    sanctioned strength.

According to sources the state government’s plan to

release prisoners booked for petty offences and women
has also not materialised to the desired extent.
