Winter session of Bihar assembly starts

Patna, (Bihar Times): The four day long winter session of the Bihar legislative assembly started on Friday morning. However, the first day was confined to obituary references and the real business will start
from Monday.

The session is likely to be stormy with the opposition deciding to grill the government on various issues, particulalrly those related to law and order and failure in flood relief.

According to the RJD MLA and national spokesman, Shayam Rajak, the Opposition had several issues to corner the government on the floor of the House. Issues like kidnapping for ransom, non-utilization of central funds, scarcity of fertilizers, repeated attack on mediapersons and poor conditions of farmers are likely to be raised.

The opposition would also raise the issue of lathicharge, and use of water cannons on auxillary mid-wives in Patna on November 30. Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, had justified the police action on ASHA on the plea that nobody would be allowed to take law into their hands. All the third and fourth grade employees of the health department have been on strike since then.

On the other hand the leader of the Congress Legislature Party, Ashok Ram, said that his party would raise the issue of financial mismanagement. Despite making tall claims of bringing back the economy on rails, the government had utilised only 25 per cent of its annual plan till now.

Meanwhile, the opposition parties are angry over such brief winter session of the assembly.
