We would not allow Nandigram like situation to emerge: Nitish

Patna, (Biihar Times): The chief minister, Nitish Kumar, said on Monday that his government would not allow Nandigram type situation to occur in Bihar as the compensation package for acquiring farmland for setting up industries is the best in Bihar.

Talking to reporters at the Janata Darbar on Monday he said farmers were willing to part with their agricultural land on their own and no force was being used to acquire land as it is being made out.

Citing examples he said the farmers of Nalanda and Bihta in Patna district parted with 500 acres of land respectively for setting up the prestigious Nalanda Open University, a dream project of former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and for Indian Institute of Techonolgy (IIT) at Bihta.

On the railway minister, Lalu Yadav’s complaint that the state government is not giving land for the railway projects in the state he said what is preventing the railways from completing those projects for which land has already been provided. For this he cited the examples of railway’s coach maintenance factory at Harnaut in Nalanda district and the doubling of Patna-Gaya track.
