(Bihar Times): The 25-day long Harihar Kshetar Mela at Sonepur in Saran district 
started on Kartik Purnima day on Saturday. Asia’s largest cattle fair was 
inaugurated on Saturday evening by the revenue and land reforms minister, Ramnath 
Thakur while the minister of sports and culture, Janardhan Prasad Sigriwal, was 
the chief guest. Several other ministers of the Nitish cabinet were also present 
on the occasion.  
Though the fair was inaugurated on the day Nitish Kumar government completed two 
years in office and ministers present at the inaugural function made tall claims 
there was unprecedented water and power scarcity there. However, Thakur assured 
the gathering that the biggest fair of the continent would soon be developed into 
an national fair.  Among 
lakhs of visitors were 25 from France, Poland, Japan and several other countries. 
Inter alia two dozen elephants, hundreds of horses, cattle, birds etc are the 
prize attraction of the fair.
