|            | Patna, (Bihar Times): The state government 
on Sunday directed the civil and police administration of Saran division to ensure 
that stipulations under the Bihar Cattle Protection and Development Act, 1955 
and its amendment in 1982 were strictly implemented. A similar directive had been 
sent to the East Central Railway.

minister, Sushil Kumar Modi, issued the order following complaints of large-scale 
illegal transportation of cattle from the Sonepur Fair to other states. Modi’s 
step came following the repeated complaints made by some farmers last year that 
the cattle brought to the fair were purchased and transported to other states 
in a large number.  This not only leads 
to the scarcity of the cattle for the farmers who come to buy it, but also cause 
rise in prices. Quoting from the Act Modi said that “No person shall export 
cows, she-buffaloes, calves, heifers, buffalo calves, buffalo heifers, buffaloes 
and bullocks from the state.” Those found violating the Act could be arrested 
by an ASI with provision of punishment of upto six months imprisonment and a penalty 
of Rs 1,000, the deputy chief minister said Comment |
