|            | Patna, (Bihar Times): The 
special public prosecutor of Begusarai in the famous Rami Singh murder case, 
Ran Naresh Sharma, 55, was shot dead by some unidentified criminals at his 
residence in Pokharia locality of Begusarai district on Thursday evening. The 
incident sent shock waves in the town as Sharma was appointed as SPP by 
none else but the chief minister, Nitish Kumar, who also holds the law portfolio. According 
to the police some unidentified criminals knocked at his residence on Thursday 
evening. As he opened the door the criminals pumped bullets into his body. 
He was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead. They later 
sped away on their motor-cycle. It 
needs to be mentioned that the Lok Janshakti Party member of Parliament, Suraj 
Bhan Singh, is an accused in the Rami Singh murder case. According to the superintendent 
of police, Amit Lodha, a manhunt is on to nab the criminals involved in the 
killing. A shock 
chief minister ordered a high-level probe by two-member committee comprising 
ADG (Headquarters), Abhayanand, and IG (CID), Rajesh Ranjan. Nitish also held 
a high-level meeting with senior officials, which included home secretary, 
Afzal Amanullah, and director general of police, Ashish Ranjan Sinha, to assess 
the situation. The state government also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 
lakh to the family members of Sharma. The 
incident brought lawyers to the streets of Begusarai. They demanded high-level 
probe into the matter and immediate arrest of the criminals. It needs to 
be mentioned that Suraj Bhan has a running battle for supremacy with the state 
Janata Dal (United) president and MP, Lallan Singh.
