|            | Patna, (Bihar Times): Now all the 317 legislators of
Bihar––243 members of legislative assembly and 74
members of the legislative council will be armed with
    the laptops.
Incidentally, there is no dearth of both illiterate
and computer illiterate legislators in the state
assembly, yet the Nitish government has sanctioned
more than Rs 2.37 crore for the purchase of laptops
    for them.

According to Girish Shankar, principal cabinet
secretary the legislators will be provided laptops
before the end of the current financial year, that is,
    March 31, 2008.

He said that each laptop costs Rs.74,356, including
fees for training, and the government had made it
clear that the legislators will have to surrender the
laptops at the end of their terms. However after the
expirty of the term the legislators would be allowed
to keep the laptops provided they pay the depreciated
    value.

Now it is to be seen as to what use will some of our
honourable legislators do with the laptops as their
shoulders are more used to carrying guns, rather than
    handy computers.

This question was raised at the time when the then
Rari Devi government decided to give personal
computers to all the legislators of the state. There
was much hue and cry in a section of media over this
    useless expenditure.
