Patna   (Bihar Times): Precautionary measures have been
          taken in Bihar following the   outbreak of bird flu in
          West Bengal, especially in the places adjoining   Bihar.
          
          
          West Dinajpur and Birbhum (the former shares border
          with   Bihar) reported several cases of bird flu. This
          has caused a lot of concern   in Purnea, Katihar and
          Kishanganj districts and even in Bhagalpur, south   to
          Ganga. There are a number of poultry farms in the
          north-east districts   of Bihar.
          
          All the officials of the animal husbandry department
          have   been dircted to examine chickens in both poultry
          farms and retail shops.   Steps have been taken to
          decontaminate both the private and   government-run
          poultry farms.
          
          If any case of infection is detected,   the samples
          would be sent to High Security Animal Husbandry
          Laboratory,   Bhopal for confirmation.
          
          According to Principal Secretary, Health,   Deepak
          Kumar. animal husbandry department has been asked to
          take suitable   measures to prevent infection in Bihar.
    
      Meanwhile, prices of poultry fell   down considerably
      after the detection of bird flu in West Bengal.
