Patna, (Bihar Times): The higher education department
of the Union human resources department has asked the
state to provide a temporary premises for at least
three years to start the Indian Institute of
Technology. With this the chance of IIT starting its
academic session from 2008-09 has brightened.

The special secretary, Union human resources
      development department, K M Acharya, on Jan 16, 2008
wrote  a letter to the chief secretary, R J M Pillai,
asking the Bihar government to identify a temporary
premises. As per the specification laid down by the
HRD, government of India, the state government would
have to provide a built-up area of 38,000 square feet.

It should have separate hostels for boys and girls,
which can accommodate 200 students. Besides, it should
have residential accommodation for core staff. It is
likely that the IIT will have its own premises within
      three years.

According to the principal secretary, Ajay Kumar
Thakur, the state government has at its disposal
30,000 square feet of built up area on Patliputra
Polytechnic campus, the construction of which is going
on. It has two blocks of 50 rooms each for hostels.
Each room has three beds which will solve the problem
      of hostels.
