State govt plane catches fire, minister escapes unhurt

Monazir HasanPatna, (Bihar Times): The building construction minister of Bihar, Monazir Hassan, his secretary and the pilot, had a miraculous escape on Friday evening as the four-seater state government plane carrying them caught fire while touching down at the Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna on Friday evening.

The plane was 40 per cent burnt and is being removed from the runway to the state hanger by hydraulic jack. The state government authorities are not letting the media to take the visual image of the accident.

Sources said that the wheels of the small plane could not come out at the time of landing, which ultimately led to the accident. The minister was returning from Chapra and there was poor visibility in the evening.

The state government had three such planes. Out of this one has gone for maintenance. While the cabinet secretary, Girish Shankar, told a section of media that the plane was thoroughly inspected before departing for Chapra it is feared that the lack of proper maintenance is the cause of the mishap.
