Patna, (Bihar Times): As a large part of state has been facing acute power-cut Bihar has sought additional 300 MW of electricity from the Centre.

Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) chairman Swapan Mukherjee sent a letter to the Union energy secretary requesting him for the immediate allocation of additional 300 MW power to the state from Central reserve pool to avert serious power crisis here.

According to reports this is the fifth request letter to the Centre within a year for allocation of additional 300 MW power to Bihar. Mukherjee himself flew to New Delhi on Friday to meet the Union energy secretary and plead for additional allocation of power.

The unprecedented power crisis in the state has led to bandh in Gaya, Purnea, Kahalgaon (Bhagalpur) in the last week of December. In Khagaria, Aurangabad, Munger and several other places people even damaged government property in protest against this shortage.

In some of the towns of the state even two hours of power supply is not possible. Power cut is causing serious water crisis too. In Patna too many areas are facing acute power and water crisis.

Sources said that the availability from Central sector had come down to 700 MW against Central sector allocation of 1170 MW to the state. This is because of fall in generation at Tala hydro electric project and Farakka super thermal power station. Shortage of coal is said to be the reason for this.
