Patna, April 2 : Over 200 suspected Maoists attacked a lawmaker's village in Aurangabad district of Bihar, set on fire three vehicles being used by his construction company and kidnapped four labourers, the police said Wednesday.

A group of armed rebels Tuesday night attacked Kala Pahar, the native village of Vijay Kumar Singh alias Dabloo Singh, a Lok Janshakti Party legislator from Nabinagar in Aurangabad, about 125 km from here.

"Maoists attacked my village in search of me and my father. Thank god we were not there," Singh said.

Police sources said the Maoist guerrillas opened fire to create panic among the villagers after they swooped on the village. But no casualty was reported.

Another group of suspected Maoists attacked the camp office of the construction company run by Singh near Ordi Pahar and set on fire two dumpers and an earth-digging machine. They also kidnapped four labourers at gunpoint.

Police suspect the Maoist attack was linked to an extortion demand from the construction company.

Singh's father Mathura Singh is a contractor. Two years ago, Maoists had attacked and destroyed properties at another of his construction sites.
