|            | Patna, (Bihar Times): In a bid to soften the doctors,
who are on the warpath, the state government has
decided to constituted a special battalion to look
after their security. The news came on the day the
doctors went on a two-day (Feb7-8) token strike to
press their charter of demands, which, inter alia,
include payment of central scale to them.
According to the health minister, Chandra Mohan Rai,
the battalion will start functioning from the next
financial year and will be under the direct control of
the health department. The details are still being
worked out and the government is planning to bring in
a legislation in this regard. Strict action would be
taken against anyone attacking the doctors,
para-medical staff or destroying the hospital
    property.

The government move came after repeated case of attack
on the government doctors, the latest being in the
Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital last week. The
junior doctors went on wild cat strike after the
attack on them and locked even the emergency services.

Incidentally the Patna Medical College and Hospital,
though situated in the vicinity of the Pirbahore
police station, witnesses maximum number of such
incidents. If the district police can not provide
security to the doctors, how much could the spcial
battalion raised by the health department succeed.
