|            | Patna (Bihar Times): Agitating farmers of Nalanda on
Friday raised slogans against the state government and
pelted stones at the chief minister Nitish Kumar, when
he accompanied by the former President, A P J Abdul
Kalam, visited the Nalanda International University site.
Kalam, who is the Visitor of the University, was there
to hold a high-level meeting on the upcoming
  University.
The farmers took to street in protest against the
inappropriate payment of compensation for the 446
acres of land acquired by the district administration
for the ambitious University project, in which Nobel
Laurete, Amartya Sen, and many foreign scholars are
 taking keen interest.
When the chief minister learnt that the farmers are
protesting he himself came out to assure them. But the
moment he was out the crowd started pelting stones on
him. Soon the police threw protective cordon around
the chief minister and chased away the farmers. A
stampede-like situation emerged for a moment, but the
situation was soon brought under control.
Later Kalam, whose brainchild the Nalanda
International University is, presided over the meeting
and left for Patna. That the chief minister was
welcomed with stones at his home turf, Nalanda, came
as a shock to many people in the state.
