      | Patna, Feb 10:The Bihar government Sunday began probing Friday's attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar when angry farmers of Nalanda district pelted stones at him. The farmers were agitating for more compensation for their lands acquired for the proposed an international university in the district. Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah, conducting the probe, visited Pilkhi village, where the incident occurred, official sources said. His probe report would be submitted to the government in a couple of days.

 | | Amanullah met dozens of farmers in the village to know about their demands and grievances related to the compensation paid for their lands acquired to set up the Nalanda International University, said the sources.
The farmers of Pilkhi village gave vent to their anger during former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Nitish Kumar's visit to the university site at Rajgir near Nalanda, about 100 km from here.

The government said Sunday the incident, which it believes was at the behest of some "vested political interests", would be thoroughly probed.

The police Saturday arrested two farmers and filed cases against 16.

Nalanda is the home district of Nitish Kumar, and he is regarded as more popular than any other leader of Bihar.

The Bihar government has acquired 446 acres of land at Rajgir to set up the proposed university. Government officials claimed that the farmers have been paid compensation.
