      |         Patna, (Bihar Times): The United   States will provide an
        additional $ 1.2 million (about Rs 4.7 crore) aid   for
        the flood victims of Bihar.
 This was announced by the Charge d’   Affairs, Steven J.
        White, in India. This amount is in addition to the   $
        1.05 million (about Rs. 4.1 crores) the United States
        provided in   September 2007, that is just after the
        devastation.
 
 |  |   According to the   reports the funds will be used to
help flood victims in four flood-affected   districts of
Bihar. It will be used to rebuild the livelihoods of
the   victims through agriculture and economic
reconstruction efforts. The funds   will also provide
support for water and sanitation work,   disaster
preparedness training, and malaria control.
 Official sources   put the toll at 967, but unofficially
the toll may be higher. About 24.6   million people were
affected in the two months of deluge in a large   part
of north Bihar––between mid-July and mid-September.
 
 The report   said that the US Agency for International
Development will partner with   non-governmental
organizations such as Agency for Technical   Cooperation
and Development (ACTED), Project Concern International
and   Catholic Relief Services to implement the flood
emergency recovery   activities.
