      | Patna, Feb 24: A daylong shutdown was observed in Bihar's Bhagalpur district Sunday to protest the killing of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Laxmikant Yadav. Unidentified gunmen shot dead Yadav Saturday night in Bhagalpur, leading to violent protests, police said.
Yadav was the Bhagalpur district president of the state's main opposition party.

 | | An angry mob attacked a police station and set fire to a house in front of which Yadav was killed. RJD supporters also held a protest by blocking a highway, demanded the immediate arrest of the killers.
RJD spokesperson Shyam Rajak demanded a CBI probe into the killing and the suspension of Bhagalpur district magistrate and superintendent of police.

"It was a political killing, he was eliminated for raising issues concerned with the people," Rajak said.

Rajak charged that Yadav was killed by people in power, without naming the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).

An RJD team sent by party president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad was camping in Bhagalpur to inquire into the incident and chart out its strategy, party sources said.
