Rabri lauds Lalu's railway budget

 

Patna, Feb 26: Bihar's opposition leader Rabri Devi praised the railway budget for 2008-09 presented Tuesday by her husband, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, terming it people-friendly.

"Laluji has fulfilled the promise made to the people by presenting a people-friendly budget," an upbeat and smiling Rabri Devi said.


Like a good Indian wife, Rabri Devi Tuesday morning offered special prayers for her husband's success before he presented his fifth consecutive railway budget in parliament, a staff at her official residence here told IANS.

After the budget presentation, Rabri Devi praised and lauded Lalu Prasad for not hiking passenger fares and reducing these in several categories as well as announcing a slew of measures for improving services and safety.

Rabri Devi, who watched the budget presentation live on television, said it was the best railway budget ever and added the railway's record Rs.25,000 crore (Rs.250 billion) profit was a story of success and leadership.

She also praised the railway minister for special measures announced for women, including 50 percent discount for them in all classes and introducing several facilities for them.

Lalu Prasad has created history by according the status of gangmen to coolies, she said.
