Police rescue abducted engineer, supervisor in Bihar

Patna, Feb 28 :The police rescued a kidnapped engineer and a supervisor of a road construction company in Rohtas district of Bihar Thursday.

Engineer Sanjay Singh and supervisor Dharmendra Singh of Ranchi-based Vijeta Construction Company were kidnapped by a group of armed Maoists Wednesday.

The company received a ransom call from the abductors. Company officials are now tight-lipped on whether a ransom was paid.

Vijeta Construction Company is engaged in the construction of the Shivsagar-Chenari road in the district at an estimated cost of Rs.440 million.

The fear of Maoist militants has put a stop to road construction in many parts of rural Bihar. Contractors of several projects have fled, fearing for their lives, an official said.

Last year, Maoist guerrillas demanded Rs.220 million from the Hyderabad-based Engineering and Construction Inc (ECI), which was building roads in Rohtas.
