Patna, (Bihar Times): Along with a team of ministers and officials chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday made an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Patna, Begusarai, Khagaria, Araria, Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura, Samastipur and Madhubani districts.
He also held a high-level meeting with local officials at Birpur near Nepal border in Supaul district. Among those who attended the meet were Kosi division commissioner, U K Nanda, district magistrates of Madhepura, Supaul, Saharsa and Araria.

He told newsmen there that though the flood situation till now is not alarming the state government machinery was fully geared up to face any eventuality.
He said all precautionary measures had been taken to tackle the flood situation but added a high dam in Nepal was the only option for the permanent solution of the perennial flood problem. Besides, the high dam would help Nepal generate electricity and irrigate the terai land.

Nitish said that steps have been taken to provide relief to the people, if needed.

      Comments...
However cynical this might sound but the truth is even if the Union Minister for water resources hails from Bihar he would not be willing to solve the flood issue as that would mean providing further credibility to the excellent work being done by the current state government. If Laloo prasad yadav and his band of politicians that ruled (read ruined) Bihar for 15 years could not solve the issue, the central government with its lot of sycophant and utterly incapable ministers should not be expected to address the issue with any sincerity. The effective governance provided by the erstwhile Rabri aka Laloo government can be gaged from the fact that a district-town like khagaria did not have any electricity (not even for a second) for three months and for three consecutive years. That is just the tip of an iceberg, I must say.
