Patna, (Bihar Times): Finally it is at the initiative
of the Centre that the    first step has been taken in
the direction of sugar industry. On Tuesday the    Union
agriculture minister, Sharad Pawar, laid the
foundation of Rs 800 crore sugar mill at Shariatpur
village in East Champaran district. The mill, first to
come up in the state after 1970, will be the biggest
in the country to be set up by Ruia Group.
However, Pawar did not miss the opportunity to
lambaste the state chief minister, Nitish Kumar, for
demanding from the Centre Rs 20,000 crore for opening
sugar mills. He said that he had set up 80 sugar mills
during his life, but failed to understand why Nitish
wants so much money to set up sugar mills. He said
that he replied to the chief minister that he would
give money at rate of four per cent interest. Pawar
said that the tall promises of the Nitish government
regarding the revival of the sugar mill was not
evident anywhere in the state.

Coming to Bihar for the first time after the
anti-North Indian agitation in his home state he said
that the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leaders must not
forget that Biharis have played a leading role in the
making of modern Mumbai.

Railway minister Lalu Prasad joined Pawar in stating
that the state chief minister only gives false
assurances to the people. Only MoUs are
signed but nothing comes out, he said. He once again
blasted Nitish for sitting on the lap of the RSS and
declared that Lal Krishna Advani would never become
the Prime Minister of the country.

On the other hand Pawar was all praise for the railway
minister, Lalu Yadav, minister of state for
agriculture and local MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh, and
the chairman of the Ruia Group for making efforts to
uplift the condition of the farmers of the region.

Apart from sugar this Greenfield integrated sugar
mill, named as Kamlapur Sugar Refinery Limited, will
also manufacture 240 kilo litres of ethanol per day
and co-generate 50 MW of power. This, incidentally,
will be the first sugar mill of its kind in the
country.

Pawar said Bihar was once the leading producer of
sugar in the country. But in the past several decades
many of them got sick and had to be shut down. Three
of these mills are in East Champaran. Although several
measures were taken to revive the sick sugar mills,
the efforts failed to yield any result.

The Union agriculture minister assured farmers that
like rabi crops, paddy producers would soon get
remunerations which would be unprecedented.

The chairman of the Ruia Groups, Pawan Kumar Ruia,
assured that the work to instal the sugar unit would
start before August 1, 2008, and the entire unit would
be set up by October 2009. The Ruia Group has acquired
100 acres of
land from farmers and efforts are in the final stage
to purchase another 85 acres at Shariatpur.
Ruia said that his dream of setting up a unit in
Bihar, which incidentally is his birth place, has come
true. He said that this would be the biggest sugar
mill in the country and first of its kind.

      Comments..
I fail to understand why Sharad Pawar is criticizing Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. If he is so concerned about the development of Bihar, he should have come to Bihar 2 years back and laid the foundation of Sugar Mill. Laloo Prasad Yadav got 15 years but he did not even provided basic level of Employment Opportunities to Youth of the State, lack of Employment Opportunities forced the youth to look for the same elsewhere in the country. Thanks to Raj Thakrey and NCP, we all know the plight of Bihari in Maharashtra.   Rishi Kant rishikantsinha@gmail.com ----------------------     Mr. Pawar should understand that this is not the fight between IPL and ICL where he can dictat his own terms. He should have atleast basic courtesy to invite CM of a state where he was laying foundation for a sugar mill. I think he is in illusion and concieving achievement of IPL as achievement of his own agriculter ministery. I have not heard any positive or good steps taken by Pawar as agriculter minister. He should take some lessions from CM of Bihar. -Sarvesh
Bangalore sarveshk@gmail.com ----------------------------------------------- The criticism of Sharad Pawar against honest C.M. of Bihar Nitish Kumar is very appalling. This type of politician always makes unscrupulous alliance and always wants to take political mileage. Every body now in Bihar is feeling a new lease of life from the corruption, kidnapping ,looting and jungle raj of Lalu-Rabri. Same time God has blessed Bihar with a C.M. like Nitish Kumar who is undoubtedly a very dear to people of Bihar, Lalu breed of politicians simply can't bear it. Nitish Kumar has done wonderful work within a short span of time Now this belief has changed that Bihar can't change. Thank you Nitish Jee. We love you, let these type of people bark you continue your wonderful work. People of Bihar are not blind, they know who is correct and who is wrong.   Rakesh Kumar --------------------------------------------------------- I really could not understand why Sharad Pawar is criticising Nitish govt.. Sharad Pawar never visited the state during Lalu-Rabri regime, why ? Now how can he compare ? If he would have visited he may not have said a single word against honest efforts of NDA govt.. Nitish govt is continuously requesting central govt for permission to setup sugar mills with ethanol production, but centre is not at all permitting. The total investment which has been held up is around Rs.20000 crores. Is it a small investment ? There are many private companies who are interested to invest but due to centre govt. non-coperation Bihar is not getting that investment.       Everybody in and outside Bihar is watching the work done by Nitish govt. in the last 2 years. I am in full praise of Nitish govt. for their splendid allround work in the state. Sharad Pawar should not criticize unnecessarily. As far as Lalu is concerned, if he was so intelligent, why he did not do any work although people of Bihar gave him 15 years to show his capabilities. What he did in 15 years ? He worked to bring the state backwards instead of any development. Now he is talking big and criticizing the govt. that is really working very honestly and people are now able to see the allround development in the state.   sanjay@christian-aidindia.org   |
