Patna, May 7 :A mob thrashed a man and poured acid into his eyes in a village in Bihar's Purnea district, the police said here Wednesday.

Binay Yadav alias Pappu Yadav, in his 30s, was described by the police as a suspect in a murder case.

He was caught by residents of Radhnagar village under the jurisdiction of the Banmankhi police station, about 350 km from the state capital here.

"A police team rescued the seriously injured Yadav and sent him to a government hospital for treatment," a police official said.

The police have filed a case but no arrest was made.

The incident comes a day after a Dalit youth was tortured and beaten to death by a mob in Mallikpura village in Vaishali district, about 50 km from here. He was suspected to have stolen a water pump.

Mob violence in the name of justice is common in rural Bihar. Over three dozen lynching incidents were reported last year and over two dozen cases have been reported in the last four months.

Earlier this week, three suspected criminals were lynched by a mob at Deodatwa village in East Champaran district.

Last month, Ashok Sahni, who belonged to a backward caste, was beaten to death for falling in love with a girl from a different community.

The worst lynching case was reported in September last year when 10 men from the underprivileged Kueri community were beaten to death in Vaishali district on suspicion that they were thieves. Later, a probe found that the men were innocent.

Have gone through this news and aggrieved about the details. I believe a thief is a thief whether he belongs to Schedule caste, tribe, backward or forward. Do you agree with that. If yes then why you are twisting a simple news in caste line. Do you want some favour from Bihar government?

Am staying in CA, USA. And it looked funny to read these lines.
