Patna, May 14:Six suspected Maoist rebels were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Bihar's Nawada district Wednesday, police said.

Police said a team of security forces comprising of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the district police had surrounded Mathi village in Nawada, about 150 km from here, after a tip-off that some Maoists had gathered there possibly to launch an attack.

Maoists opened fire, injuring some CRPF and police personnel, and the CRPF retaliated in which six Maoists were killed, police said. An unspecified number of rebels were injured but managed to escape.

Five rifles and several rounds of cartridges were recovered from the Maoists killed.
