Patna, (Bihar Times): The state government is to verify the status of the Khas Mahal land given on lease in Bihar. After a survey it has realized that it possesses 17,000 acres of Khas Mahal land and not 4,000 acres as it was believed till recently. This revelation was made during a review of the revenue and land reforms department done by the chief minister, Nitish Kumar, at his residence on Tuesday.

The state has also decided to impose penalties on all the encroachments. The verification would also identify whether the land has been sold or transferred by those to whom it was given on lease or those who held it in illegal possession. In Patna alone Khas Mahal land have been identified in Digha, Kadam Kuan, Shivpur, Mahendru, Takia Toli, Chirayantand, Sadiqpur Jogi, Kiledari Patna City, Patna-Gaya Road etc. The Bihar State Housing Board has been directed to prepare a proposal regarding 1,074 acres of land acquired by it in Digha with the interests of the
