Patna, May 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Phalguni Yadav was injured and admitted to a hospital after Bihar's Food and Consumer Minister Narendra Singh allegedly pushed him down from a raised podium at an event in Jamui district Wednesday evening. An angry BJP demanded action against Singh and urged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's intervention.
In a joint statement, BJP leaders Lal Babu Prasad and Anil Sharma said their party would not tolerate humiliation of a senior leader like Yadav, a legislator from Chakai known for his mass base.

Narendra Singh, a senior Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader, pushed Yadav down from a raised podium at a public meeting in Jamui, about 200 km from here.

Both Singh and Yadav are from the state's ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that includes JD-U and BJP.

It is not the first time Singh's rough behaviour has made news.

Last year, he was in the eye of a storm for allegedly pushing an elderly woman in Bhagalpur district when she went up to him to ask for a job, causing fracture of her arms. Singh denied having pushed her.

Soon after the formation of the Nitish Kumar government in November 2005, he reportedly abused and threatened a judicial magistrate at the gate of the assembly.

The opposition parties including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, have demanded action against Singh and his resignation on moral grounds.
