Patna, (Bihar Times): A large number of people were
injured, including some policemen, when thousands of
Shikcha Mitr and Panchyat Shikchak––a large number of

them omen––were lathicharged by the police at R-Block
roundabout near Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier in the day Shikcha Mitr and Panchyat Shikchak
gathered at Gandhi Maidan, from where they marched
towards the state secretariat, where they were stopped
by the police at R-Block. They wanted to submit their
13-point charter of demands to the state government.
On their way they raised the slogan: Shikcha Mantri
Hosh Main Aao. When there was no response from the
government side they became restive and clashed with
  the police.

Incidentally there was no policewomen posted there
when the fact was that a large number of them who
assembled there were women. They were brutally
thrashed by the male police personnel.

The Shikcha Mitr were protesting the government order
to sack all those teachers who secured less than 45
per cent marks in the intermediate. The human
resources development minister, Brishen Patel, refused
to accept their demands. The Shikcha Mitr sat on the
dharna at the R-Block immediately after the
lathi-charge. Their leaders told newsmen that they are
prepared for do or die battle with the state
  government.
