Bihar MLAs to get computer training

Patna: They got the latest version of the laptops with all sorts of facilities, but they do not know how to handle it. Now they are waiting for a trainer to train them. Arrangements are being made to hold a training session for legislators of Bihar for the optimum use of the laptops.

Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary told Press that though the laptops have arrived yet he had asked the company concerned to install some extra softwares into them so that the utility of these computers increases.

They would also get accessories like printer, mouse and a SIM card for the internet facility. The MLAs
would now remain updated of all the  information like government schemes and their status in various
assembly constituencies.

It needs to be mentioned that sometimes back the state cabinet has sanctioned over Rs 2.5 crore for giving laptops to 243 MLAs and 74 members of the Bihar Legislative Council (MLCs). Each laptop costs around Rs 74,000. This includes the cost of training. The legislators will have to surrender the laptops after the expiry of their terms. But only God knows what will be the condition of these laptops two and a half years from now when the election is to take place.

However, those willing to pay the depreciated price of the laptops have been given the option to keep their computers.

Media reports say that though the MLCs have already been given the laptops, they have not yet started using them because of the absence of training. Quite a few of them had taken away the laptops without getting necessary softwares installed in them and are now returning them to get them fully loaded.

The Speaker, however, is hopeful that the MLAs would soon learn how to operate laptops as they learnt mobile phones.
