Student-classroom ratio highest in Bihar

Patna, (Bihar Times): Bihar has been maintaining large number of students in each class for primary division for the last several years. The student-classroom ratio was 90 in 2004-05, 92 in 2005-06, and 91 in 2006-07. This is not very ideal as teachers are unable to pay attention. The student-classroom ratio in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh is also high in this period.

According to report published by the Educational Management Information System (EMIS) Delhi has, on an average, 30 students in each class for primary sections.

The report is based on the data provided by the district schools and provides an insight into the standard of primary education in India. It shows that states with less population have less number of students in each class for primary sections.

Thus the north eastern states have registered less numbers of students in primary division. Further, the ratio has been declining significantly in Sikkim for the last three years. The situation in Mizoram and Manipur is similar. The study has been compiled by National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) and it shows that there were on an average 30 students in each class in 2004-05, 41 in 2005-06 and 30 in 2006-07 all over the country.
