Gaya hooch tragedy: Police raids house of RJD MLA’s brother

Patna,(BiharTimes): Gaya Police on Thursday seized documents of properties worth crores of rupees from Mantu Yadav, brother of Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA and former excise minister, Surendra Yadav.

The raid followed hooch tragedy in Gaya in which one dozen people lost their lives. Mantu has a wholesale liquor business.

According to Gaya Superintendent of Police Akhtar Hussain armed with search warrant issued by court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Gaya, police raided the Bindi market complex of Mantu Yadav, which also includes his residence and seized documents of properties estimated to be worth Rs 50 crore. The market and the house have been sealed.

The SP said the properties included house in Goa, Delhi and Uttrakhand. A gun and several rounds of ammunition were also recovered from his house.

Cases were lodged against Mantu Yadav and others for selling spurious liquor.

If the police version is to be believed during search at Mantu’s godowns a large quantity of illicit liquor was seized that apparently matched with the pouches containing spurious liquor recovered from the households of the victims.

Surendra Yadav represents Belganj Assembly seat in Gaya district.

It needs to be recalled that in another incident about 30 people died due to consumption of illicit liquor in Bhojpur district of Bihar last week. However, no major breakthrough has been made in that case.
